We like to keep a few finewool breed sheep around to cross to our BFLs to produce sheep with fleece that are very soft, but grow faster. Our focus with the cross-bred flock is high-quality, clean wool, that has a longer staple length while being next-to-skin soft. We also select for good conformation, good mothering qualities, and hardy sheep. The cross breeds have hybrid vigor and grow well. We enjoy all the different and beautiful textures, colors, crimps, and lusters that our BFL crosses give in their fleece.
Below are our breeding ewes and ram that we use to cross with the BFLs.
Regis
Regis is owned by our daughter – Untold Glory Farm. He is a purebred, colored Merino ram lamb, born spring of 2024. He has a beautiful, super-fine fleece and nice conformation. We are looking forward to seeing how he fully matures. Historically, some of our favorite fleece have come from crosses like we plan to use him for. We are also interested to see how his color comes through in the lambs. He fathered his first lambs in Untold Glory’s flock in spring 2025, and we are planning to use him with our flock for 2026 lambs.

Annie

Annie joined the flock in spring of 2023. She is a grey CVM/Merino/BFL ewe with a beautifully soft fleece. She actually comes from our lines from many years ago. Her previous owner purchased her mother from us pregnant with her from our ram. Annie has done great as a mother, despite starting later in life. She has given us twin ram lambs twice now – all 4 had really nice fleece, beautiful color, and exceptional growth.
Matilda
Matilda is an Australian Bond ewe from the Gleason farm in Lyons, Colorado. The Gleasons originally imported the Bond breed to America in 2000. They carefully bred the Bonds to preserve the great fleece qualities of this breed. Matilda is a beautiful example of a Bond ewe. Her fleece are very lustrous, long, and have a very organized crimp. She is an excellent mother and despite not being bred until later in life, she had singles twice, and a very surprising set of triplets. She is now retired from breeding due to her age. But we still enjoy her beautiful fleece every year.

Nora

When we sold our entire East Friesian milk sheep flock in spring of 2025, we decided to keep Nora.
She is a white ewe born here at Willow Creek Farm in the spring of 2020. Her mother was a dairy ewe and her father was a BFL/CVM/Merino-cross ram, making her 50% milk sheep breeds and 50% fiber sheep breeds. Since we are working to grow the milky aspects of the BFL flock, we wanted to breed her to our BFL rams, giving BFL cross lambs that have a small percentage of finewool breeds and milk sheep breeds. We are looking forward to seeing how those lambs turn out.
Nora has excellent udder attachment and great conformation. Over the years, she has given us sets of twins and triplets and is a wonderful mother.
Nora is one of the friendliest of the ewes, and is the first to greet us for affection whenever
we go to the barn.
